Zero’s May Week of Action aligns with the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT). This global initiative, established in 2004, calls for action against the violence and discrimination faced by LGBTQIA+ individuals worldwide annually on May 17th.. This year’s IDAHOBIT theme, "No one left behind: equality, freedom, and justice for all," resonates deeply with Zero's objectives.

Zero will host virtual events on key issues facing LGBTQIA+ Latine individuals throughout our "Honored & Beloved week of action May 13-17. These events will highlight #Honored&Beloved leaders in our communities, address legislative threats, and highlight individuals leading efforts toward inclusive health policy and LGBTQIA+ rights.

Key #Honored&Beloved Events:

May 13th, 2024, 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM EST:  KICK OFF & ENCUENTRO

Join us on the first day of Zero Homophobia Zero Transphobia Week of Action, #HonorandBeloved, and learn more about Encuentro 2024. Encuentro is a three-day convening of LGBTQ Latinx Southerners.

May 16th, 2024: 2:30 PM - 4:00 PM EST: QUEERING IMMIGRATION

As immigration policy takes center stage in the upcoming election, this event will address the unique challenges faced by LGBTQ+ migrants seeking refuge in the United States. The border crisis has reached unprecedented levels, with record-high migrant encounters. It is essential to examine how immigration policies impact LGBTQ+ immigrants/migrants. As some states embrace sanctuary policies to protect vulnerable residents and others introduce harmful anti-immigrant measures.  Our panelists will describe how they advocate for the rights and dignity of LGBTQ+ migrants on local and national levels.

May 17th, 2024: 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM EST: THE STATE OF LGBTQ-LATINE HEALTH

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has identified nearly 515 anti-LGBTQ bills introduced in 2024 alone. These bills aim to undermine the rights and well-being of LGBTQ+ individuals, seeking to restrict access to essential services, curtail free speech, limit healthcare options, and erode hard-won LGBTQ+ rights. On the heels of the 2nd National Hispanic/Latinx Health Leadership Summit held in DC, May 6-7th, 2024, queer, latine leaders are coming together to discuss what health equity could look like in our communities. Join us to envision a US health policy that prioritizes the needs and realities of LGBTQ+, Latine individuals.
